Indian actress Paoli Dam began her acting career in the Bengali television series Jibon Niye Khela (2003). Later, she participated in Bengali television series including Sonar Harin and Tithir Atithi, the first of which aired on ETV Bangla for six years. Dam was born and raised in Kolkata, where she also completed her graduation studies in chemistry at Rajabazar Science College. She originally intended to train as a pilot or a chemical researcher. Teen Yaari Katha, a 2004 Bengali film directed by Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha, was her first Bengali movie. Agnipariksha, which was directed by Ravi Kinagi, was Dam’s debut motion picture.
She had appearances in five Bengali movies between 2006 and 2009, but her career really took off with Goutam Ghose’s 2009 film Kaalbela.She gained acclaim on a global scale in 2011 for her performance in the Bengali movie Chatrak. The movie was shown at the Cannes Film Festival as well as those in Toronto and the United Kingdom. Dam debuted in Bollywood in 2012 with the films Hate Story and Vikram Bhatt’s Ankur Arora Murder Case, both of which were helmed by Sohail Tatari. For her role in Natoker Moto, she received the Viewers’ Choice Award for Best Actress at the Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival in 2016.
Childhood and education: Paoli Dam
Dam was born to a Bengali family who are natives of Faridpur in Kolkata, West Bengal. Amol and Papiya Dam are her parents, respectively. Her brother Mainak is another sibling.Dam studied in the Loreto School in Bowbazar and passed the Higher Secondary Exam. She excelled in school and received scholarships. Dam received admission to the University of Calcutta’s Vidyasagar College, where he earned a chemistry degree. She graduated from the University of Calcutta’s Rajabazar Science College Campus with a postgraduate degree in chemistry. She studied classical dance and developed an early interest in theatre, but she never had aspirations of becoming an actress.
Career in television
Dam’s acting career in Bengali television series had its start. She made an appearance in Jibon Niye Khela for Zee Bangla in 2003 and later in Jishu Dasgupta’s Tithir Atithi for ETV Bangla, which ran for six years. The actress also starred in Sonar Harin, Jaya, and Tarpor Chand Uthlo. According to Dam, Bengali television taught her a lot and prepared her for a career in film.
Career in Bengali movies, 2006–2008: Paoli Dam
Teen Yaari Katha, Dam’s first Bengali movie, started production in 2004, however it wasn’t finished until 2012. Her debut movie, Agnipariksha, was released (2006). Dam featured a supporting role in the movie, which was directed by Ravi Kinagi and produced by Debendra Kuchar. The actress next made an appearance in Haranath Chakraborty and Pijush Saha’s Tulkalam (2007). The lead male and female characters were portrayed by actors Mithun Chakraborty and Rachana Banerjee, respectively. I Love You, Dam’s third Bengali film to be released, featured her in a supporting role as the heroine’s friend. In Basu Chatterjee’s comedy of errors Hochheta Ki, which was released in Bengali in 2008, the actress played Dam, a Bengali housewife.
2009–2011
Dam had appearances in seven Bengali movies in 2009, and the success of Kaalbela helped him get attention. The 1980s Naxalite rebellion served as the backdrop for this Bengali novel by Samaresh Majumdar. Dam received appreciation for her portrayal of Madhabilata, a young Naxalite leader’s sweetheart. The Times of India praised in its review.
